College Cupboard

The College Cupboard food pantry is now open.  The College Cupboard is a resource for students who find themselves struggling to feed their families.  Our College staff determined, after surveying students, that many did not have enough money to buy food and couldn't afford to purchase balanced meals.

Dr. Kendra Ericson, College President, Sierra Matthews, former College Recruiter, and the College faculty and staff created a vision to help students.  The food pantry idea was developed and funds were quickly raised through donations from faculty, staff, friends of the College and community resources.

Students can stop by or call/email to schedule a time to pick up needed items from the College Cupboard.  Call or text (712) 364-1898 or email CollegeCupboard@stlukescollege.edu.

There are a variety of items available, including:

  • non-perishable food items
  • hygiene products
  • toiletry items
  • cleaning supplies
  • gently used clinical uniforms
  • budget friendly recipe options
  • monthly meal kits
  • suggestion box

In the future, the College Cupboard hopes to include a refrigerator for perishable items such as milk, cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, etc.

The first donation to the College Cupboard came during December of 2020.  St. Luke's College faculty and staff participated in UnityPoint Health - Sioux City's holiday contest.  Participants created sculptures made from non-perishable food items that were donated to the community.  The College sponsored a gingerbread house of canned food items donated by College faculty and staff.  The College team won first place and all food items from the gingerbread house kick-started the College Cupboard.
